Investing in Our Families: Support the Lansdowne Primary Academy Thrive Hive
At Lansdowne Primary Academy, part of The Gateway Learning Community, we are deeply committed to providing an exceptional education for our pupils, many of whom face significant challenges. We are ambitious for their futures and see incredible progress. To further empower our families and create a stronger community, we are developing a "Thrive Hive" – a welcoming space offering vital support and resources.
This initiative will provide a hub for parents and carers to access essential services, training, and a supportive network. By partnering with local businesses and organisations, we can enhance the life chances of our families and help them thrive.
We invite you to join us in this important endeavour. Your contribution, whether financial, in-kind labour, or materials, will make a tangible difference. In return for your generosity, we offer various recognition opportunities.
The Need is Real: In Tilbury, we see significant challenges: high levels of deprivation, overcrowded housing, and lower life expectancy. The Thrive Hive will directly address these issues by providing:
1. a welcoming and supportive hub:
- Seek parent and carer input to design and sustain the Thrive Hive, a warm and accessible space open beyond the school day for informal interaction, reading, and refreshments.
- Offer a multi-faith prayer room/space.
- Provide opportunities for parents/carers to volunteer in the Thrive Hive as parent champions to connect with others and develop workplace skills.
2. provide access to essential services and information:
- Host a wide range of on-site services and organisations (e.g., health, housing, adult education, debt advice, Citizens Advice).
- Signpost parents/carers to relevant local and national support for various needs (e.g., health, education, housing, addiction, cultural experiences).
- Offer informal drop-in/advice services.
- Provide access to desktop computers and a printer to assist with online forms and applications.
3. empower families through education and skills development:
- Deliver evidence-informed training for parents/carers (e.g., Triple P parenting).
- Implement targeted support programs to equip parents with the knowledge and skills to foster good school attendance, routines, habits, and lifestyles (e.g., workshops on cooking, healthy habits, attendance).
- Offer targeted support to equip parents and carers to support their child/children educationally, including training focused on early language development, vocabulary, phonics, and reading.
- Support parents/carers in writing CVs and applying for jobs online
4. provide resources to meet basic needs:
- Offer resources enabling parents/carers to meet their children's basic needs (e.g., washing machine, tumble drier, bathroom with shower, cooking facilities, uniform, food bank/pantry).
Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable future for our families. To discuss partnership opportunities, please contact Kathryn Luckin, Support Service Manager, at kathryn.luckin@theglc.org.uk
Thank you for considering this vital project.
