Instead of the usual “bring a costume from home” approach, the school was transformed into a hub of creativity centred around a specific fairy tale. Throughout the day, children immersed themselves in the story through drama, storytelling and a range of hands-on craft activities.

Rather than arriving in costume, pupils designed and created their own wearable accessories as part of their classroom activities. By the end of the day, every child had crafted something unique to wear that represented the fairy tale theme. This approach allowed children to take full ownership of their creativity and ensured that everyone could take part, regardless of resources at home.

All materials for the children’s “fairy tale transformations” were provided during the school day, and it was fantastic to see the wide range of imaginative creations produced across the school.

Thank you to all staff for supporting such a creative and inclusive way to celebrate reading and helping to make the day a magical experience for our pupils.

They wrote about what they thought could be inside the egg and used words to describe what it looked like. They were thrilled when the egg hatched and a strange-looking alien called Nanoo emerged. They wrote a letter to Nanoo to tell her all about life on planet Earth. Finally, they wrote an adventure story about Nanoo and her experience on Earth.
