Lansdowne Academy opened on 1st April 2012. Together with the Gateway Academy, Herringham Primary Academy, Gateway Primary Free School and Tilbury Pioneer Academy, we form the Gateway Learning Community Trust. Our mission is to provide the best possible opportunities to the pupils of Tilbury and Chadwell.

We work closely together as a group of Academies, pooling our expertise and resources to provide the very best for our pupils and community. All our pupils, if they wish, can progress to the Gateway Academy for their secondary education.

Whilst we work closely together as a group of academies, each school remains autonomous and unique. Lansdowne is a large academy serving the pupils aged 3 to 11 in central Tilbury. We can accommodate 104 children in our nursery and up to 630 children in Reception to Year 6.

At Lansdowne Primary Academy, pupils, parents, staff and governors work together as a whole school community to encourage active learning in a safe and stimulating environment, where each child is given opportunities to reach their full potential.

Key priorities

  • Work with children and their families to encourage high standards of achievement through quality teaching and support.
  • Foster care, kindness and respect for others, whilst developing our pupil’s self-esteem.
  • Welcome families and the wider community as active participants in the education of our children.
  • Promote high standards of behaviour, enabling children to develop as responsible, tolerant members of both the school and the wider community.
  • Promote enthusiasm for lifelong learning by providing a broad and enriching curriculum.

Lansdowne Primary Academy focuses not only on academic excellence but also on developing high achieving, resilient, healthy, aspirational, caring and fulfilled members of society.   This will be achieved through:

  • The development of  and productive relationships to prepare students for learning and life;
  • Outstanding teaching;
  • An inspiring and meaningful curriculum
  • The development of effective partnerships for the benefit and wellbeing of our community.

We strive to educate the whole child. To achieve this, the Academy provides a vast array of activities and opportunities outside of the main curriculum that develop co-operation, resilience, communication, enquiry, adaptability, respect, thoughtfulness and morality. Children are encouraged to take full advantage of every opportunity the Academy offers even when this may prove challenging.

We believe that education is not only about acquiring knowledge and skills but about developing a spirit of enquiry in a caring, stimulating and enjoyable environment. Our aim is to not just provide the highest quality of education but to develop skills, characteristics and traits needed to be successful in life after education.

Our values are driven through all that we do, our Academy promotes an environment in which we demand the following:

  • The right to respect
  • The right to learn
  • The right to be safe
